I have been musing on words spoken by one of my favourite spoken word poets known as ‘Propaganda”. I really connect with the way that he expresses himself, he is a truly gifted wordsmith. He poses interesting questions in some of his pieces but one of my favourite works is called ‘Lofty’, it looks at the craftsmanship of God evident through creation, and simply expresses something of a forgotten experience, that of awe.
Here is an excerpt from the poem – I listen to it a couple of times a week, as a way of joining with him in awe God’s craftsmanship.
But worth, value, and beauty is not determined by some innate quality
But by the length for which the owner would go to possess them
And broken and ugly things just like us are stamped “Excellent”
With ink tapped in wells of divine veins
A system of redemption that could only be described as perfect
A seal of approval, fatal debt removal
Promised, prominent, perfect priest
Brilliant designed system, redemption for our kinsmen
Can only be described as perfect with excellent execution
And I’m in awe, the only One truly excellent
The only source of excellence
We are declared excellent only by His decree with His system
The only accurate response is awe
I would recommend listening to the whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX0b6hxjyRs
