Last year I created a series of ink blotches as part of an exercise responding to an object, in this case an eye. The brief was to take any aspect of the eye that interested you and create an artwork/ object in response to it. I chose the colour of the human eye. I love every unrepeating and completely unique pattern of everyones eyes and in someway wanted to use a medium that was clearly only representational, and not specifically adherant to the shape or structure. I chose ink on parchment as my medium and set about creating these small yet beautifully and un-repetative ink palettes.
In the end there were approimately 50 small pieces of parchement all blotted on and gridded out on the wall. This project remains one of my most favourite that I have ever carried out.
I have since done quite a few more ink illustrations just using colours and simple shapes, exploring the way that the tones of ink bleed into one another – quite a tranquil and beautiful experience. I definitely plan on doing more of these. I hope you like them!
