I may be late to appreciate a lot of music, I find that I’m not always in tune with the music vibes of the day, but I’m okay with that. I have a weird cross-section of musical knowledge, from every bowie song ever produced – Joni Mitchell’s shrill notes – Florence and Her machine-Kt Tunstall- Breaking benjamin -Bela Bartok. It seems that the important people in my life have influenced me the most in terms of the music I discover and continue to listen to.
My Dad has always been a fan of Bowie, the theatrics and the music (not surprising if you’ve ever met my dad). He and I share the car most mornings to uni and work and with that comes our own private Bowie tribute show. ‘Lady Grinning Soul’ starts our cold morning off and then transitions into ‘Life on Mars’ and ends with the ‘Man Who Sold the World’. And nearly always inbetween the verses and the musical interludes, his genuis and use of layering is discussed, only to be halted by “ALL CLEAR WITH THE SIRENS!” and the launch into our rap version of ‘Data Track’.
“I love her. And true love lasts a lifetime.
Joni Mitchell is the woman who taught your cold English wife how to feel.“
Music that we listen to has an immense impact on the way we think. And not just music, but the ways that we interact with each other, the people we spend the most time with, the subcultures that we subscribe to, each one influences us more than we think. We begin to think in the same ways, the same language and adopt the same ideals as those of our influences. How interesting, I wonder how many people really believe the things that they say they do? How many people merely believe what a culture tells them because they aren’t sure how to think otherwise? Are they afraid of consequences or just afraid of realising that they don’t really know what they believe? hmmm….ponder ponder
Currently listening to: Jinja Safari – Peter Pan
This band was shared with me by my cousin Gabby 🙂
We are like peas in a pod…a metaphysical pod that stretches from Brisbane to Canberra.
And we share things that inspire us. This was just one of many things.
Stumbled on: Ingrid Michaelson (again a bit late)
I really enjoy her song “Maybe”, it talks about letting people go to do the things that they need to do, about being selfless in a relationship. It talks about an aspect of love that is all too often ignored, that part that does the right thing even though it hurts tremedously.
I also enjoy the video immensely 🙂
